Humans of Horizant featuring:
Jenny Du—Accountant

“Understanding context is just as important as understanding the numbers behind it.”
Meet Jenny Du—an Accountant at Horizant. With nearly a decade at the company, she converts daily financial data into valuable project costs, business insights, and financial reports, all while occasionally engaging directly with clients to support their needs.
Jenny, what do you enjoy most about your role at Horizant—and how does it make a difference?
What I enjoy most is supporting business operations by turning everyday numbers into meaningful financial insights. Each number tells a story, and it’s rewarding to simplify complex data for other teams—helping them reflect on past performance and make informed, data-driven decisions moving forward. I take pride in being the bridge between operational activities and financial insights, ensuring that teams can easily understand the data to guide their future decisions.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to work in your field?
To work in my field, my advice would be to start by mastering the details—accurately forecasting, checking information, and understanding every number.
That said, it’s equally important to understand the broader business context of those numbers. A solid grasp of overall strategy and industry trends will help you provide more meaningful insights. Without this understanding, it’s easy to misinterpret the data.
Also, don’t just focus on reporting numbers—be prepared to support business management in decision-making. Balancing attention to detail with a strategic mindset will allow you to make a stronger impact across your organization.
If you could describe your job in three words, what would they be and why?
#1—Reliable
Reliability is critical in accounting. Small errors can have big consequences, so I always double-check—even triple-check—everything, and ask questions when needed to ensure nothing is ever misunderstood.
#2—Organized
Being well-organized is essential to my job. I enjoy structuring financial data so it’s easy for others to find, understand and use. I also use many tools like Excel, Outlook, and the cloud to summarize or compare data, and ensure no tasks ever miss their deadline.
#3—Supportive
In my role, I’m not just tracking data—I help control costs, support product and service decisions, and provide financial information to other teams when needed. Being supportive means ensuring all teams have the insights they need to make informed, strategic decisions, driving the business forward.
