Meet Iain Newman, Account Manager and Marketing Strategist at Horizant. In his dual role, Iain serves as a trusted advisor to clients in government, banking, and nonprofits while also supporting creative marketing initiatives like social media, campaigns, and case studies.
Iain, what do you enjoy most about your role at Horizant—and how does it make a difference?
What I enjoy most about my role at Horizant is the variety and the opportunity to constantly learn. I initially started in marketing but was curious to see our work in action, so I ventured over to the client-facing sales side as well. In a larger company, that kind of flexibility and transition wouldn’t have been as easily possible.
I also really value the relationships I’ve built, both with clients and our technical team. These connections help me grow and truly act as a trusted advisor, as I’m able to tackle business challenges from multiple angles. Honestly, there isn’t a day that goes by when I’m not learning something new.
As for making a difference—one standout example is our work supporting the federal government’s real property portfolio. With over 50% of the portfolio in Archibus, knowing our work is directly supporting transformative projects around Ottawa and the country is exciting.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to work in your field?
Always be curious. Asking questions not only opens up opportunities for you—it also can reveal deeper needs or challenges your clients might not even realize they have.
Also, take the time to really build trust with others. This type of role isn’t just about budgets and timelines—it’s about understanding how people truly want their organization to function.
Finally, trust your tech team—they’re a goldmine of knowledge and always happy to help, and the more you ask, the more they can help you move forward!
If you could describe your job in three words, what would they be and why?
#1—Relationships
My role is centred around supporting clients as well as colleagues to achieve their goals. Whether it’s one of Horizant’s internal teams, a current client or a prospect, I’m always looking for ways to make things smoother, more efficient, and more successful for everyone involved.
#2—Trust
Trust is at the core of everything I do. It’s about building genuine relationships with clients and creating a sense of partnership where we’re working together—not on opposite sides. It also means trusting my internal team and myself to bring the right people and resources together to solve complex problems collaboratively.
#3—Curiosity
Whether with colleagues or clients, my job requires me to be ever-curious—so I’m constantly asking questions to see what may be on the horizon and what keeps them up at night.
Often, one question leads to another, and you find yourself opening Pandora’s Box! But that’s where the real impact is. You’re in the trenches with clients, figuring out how to best tackle a problem together. It’s energizing, and every conversation is an opportunity to grow my own knowledge and experience.
